The mission of the Central Jersey College Prep Charter School is to provide academic and social challenges and opportunities to students, instilling the skills and knowledge that they will need to succeed in their lives. CJCPCS seeks to graduate students who think critically and creatively, are committed to lifetime of learning and civic involvement, and have acquired strong skills necessary to succeed in college and beyond.

CJCP has been statewide and nationally recognized for increasing student achievement and for closing the achievement gap. This recognition includes:

  • 2016 National Blue Ribbon Award
  • 2015 & 2016 Tier I Charter School
  • Designation of High Performing Title I Reward Schools, 2014-15
  • Recipient of the Title I School Rewards Grant, 2014-15
  • Recipient of Silver Award by US News’ Top US High Schools, 2017
  • Designation of a Top Ten Middle School by JerseyCAN, 2013-14.

Central Jersey College Prep Charter School was established in 2006-07, and has received two renewals of its charter from the NJ DOE. This year we have relocated to a much larger state-of-the-art facility located at 101 Mettlers Road in Somerset to better serve the community and accommodate our expanding enrollment. We are continuing expansion into the elementary grades, and will serve grades 6 – 12 and K – 3 in 2017-18 school year.  CJCP will add a grade up every year moving forward until the lower school reaches 5th grade. While located in Somerset, we serve students who reside in Franklin Township, New Brunswick, and North Brunswick.  CJCP’s graduation rate has been 100% since 2011, and 100% of our students are accepted into 4-year colleges and universities. Our enrollment is 624 students and the student/teacher ratio is 12 to 1 or less during the school year 2017-18.

We are committed to academic excellence by offering our students a wide variety of courses including remedial, on-level, honors, and college-level courses. CJCP offers qualified students in eighth grade high school level biology course supplemented with eighth grade science curriculum to ensure success in the state’s eighth-grade science assessment and to provide adequate preparation for the Advanced Placement (AP) Biology course they will take when they are in high school. CJCP provides extended opportunities for students to take AP and college-level courses, CJCP offers substantive academic support for students who are in need of extra help, including additional support from in-class support teachers, supplemental remediation periods, and tutoring as part of students’ daily schedules.

CJCP enhances students’ academic experience with cutting-edge technology devices. In addition to interactive Smartboards in every classroom, the school provides a Chromebook for each middle and high school student along with access to etextbooks and assignments in digital format. At the lower level, each classroom is equipped with a set of tablet devices and computer stations that allows for delivery of high quality of digital content.

CJCP has instituted a College Mentorship Program to help guide our high school students through the college admissions process.  Students are placed in small groups and supported by a mentor to keep them on track for successful college entrance exam performance, resume development, career and college choice, financial aid application, plus the actual admissions process.  In addition, two school counselors provide substantial assistance for college admission tasks and organize multiple college campus visits and college instant admission decision days at the school.

Due to the dedication of our faculty our students have the opportunity to participate in many enriching educational experiences beyond the regular classroom instruction including regional Science Olympiad competitions, Math competitions, FIRST Robotics competition, Debate Club, Model United Nations, and many other competitions and project fairs. Our Science Olympiad team has earned numerous medals in years past and in 2017 advanced to state finals again where they won four medals including one first place. In 2008 they advanced to the National Invitational Science Olympiad held at George Washington University in DC. Students also have the opportunity to compete in interscholastic team sports basketball and volleyball.
